  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Tips/Techniques Drill/Grind small hole in very hard steel

The drill as you would expect, is very hard and brittle. A mag drill would be needed to apply high pressure and slow speed. And flooded with a good lubricant. Slow is the key point - this drill produces tiny chips (like an end mill) so it is very prone to chatter.

    Electronics Help

Looking at the MachTech documentation - that is a 5V device. It produces a 0-5v TTL signal. docs: >> 4. Why would I need the VFD Filter? Sometimes machines that have a VFD or other frequency drive motor controller create a noisy electrical environment. This is similar to static on a radio when...

Fusion 360 complex models, assemblies and component misalignment

Have you tried Sketchup? That is probably more suited to Architecture and cabinet work. Theres no reason why F360 couldn't do the job using a subassembly approach, e.g. constructing a wall panel or a truss. Buildings are not my expertise though.

Fusion 360 complex models, assemblies and component misalignment

Make a sub assembly with the pistons, cranks and rods: Activate the top level component. Create a NEW empty component called piston assembly. Add the pistons, rods and crankshaft which have been modelled either inside the design or an externally linked component. Add the joint relationships...

Fusion 360 complex models, assemblies and component misalignment

This is a simple design with three trays and an external reference to the mounting frame component. Each tray is a separate component, self contained with a body derived from a sketch The Mounting Frame component is a subassembly. This was a separate model which also contains two sketches and...

Fusion 360 complex models, assemblies and component misalignment

The parent component should only contain assemblies, components & joints. The subassembly components should also ONLY contain next level subassemblies, components and joints. The component must be self-contained including it's bodies and sketches, other components (e.g fasteners) and it's...
