    Hi New member from Quebec

Myfords are nice compact machines with a good reputation. I wouldn’t mind owning one either and there have been a couple come up in Victoria over the last few years but pretty pricey. One was especially nice — the owner (one owner machine) was a Myford rep here in town and bought one for his...

    Cast Iron stock

Barbell weights are another favourite target although they’re hit or miss for quality. Some of them are nice to turn, others are super hard. I made a pair of jumbo-sized jacks out of a pair of cast iron barbell collars though (the things that hold the weights onto the bar). I was pleasantly...

    Cast Iron stock

Fittings, pumps, heavy pipe, lots of oil and gas products. And that’s the trouble, and beauty, of cast — it doesn’t typically show up in big solid lumps because it’s cast into precise shapes. Unless you happen to need one of those already cast shapes, the odds of finding a lump big enough to...

That looks to be true — even says so on their webpage!

    Acetylene tank smallish

I guess it’s a good thing I don’t rent my argon tank. I just dug out my receipts and I bought it (the tank) with the SP135 from BOC in 2004 and I think I’ve only had it refilled once! I see a 2015 stamped into the neck so I’m guessing that’s the “best before” date. Might be time to take it in, I...

Who here has bought KBC branded tooling?

I think you’ll find there may be some variance. The majority of end mills I’ve got from them in their KBC brand are marked Korea; taps are frequently Bosnia / Herzegovina, and many of the reamers have been TMX from Poland. That said, they all perform well for me but if origin is a primary...

Who here has bought KBC branded tooling?

My one experience with a Groz was not pleasant and I have shied away from them ever since. Could easily have been me at fault though — I know people who are not fools that use them so they must work. -frank

Who here has bought KBC branded tooling?

I haven’t used those specific tools but I do buy their end mills, taps, and regular reamers. I’m happy enough with them. A lot of their in-house branded stuff is or was TMX out of Poland. Lately I see some of their products have a “KBC” or “KBC USA” choice as well. Not all of them, but I have...

    New Machine Day!

Oh that looks like fun indeed! And also the first lathe I’ve seen with SFM on a machine tag. What a novel idea. -frank

    Anybody want anything from Ontario?

Not so much anymore but earlier on I used to get to go on a work conference or two. Once I was in Boston for a few days during a real cold spell. Got to go outdoor ice skating in the oldest national park in the US, Boston Common. I still regard that as one of the neatest things I’ve able to do...
