  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. Cincinnati Cnc lathe update

Keep us informed of your progress. I'm really liking my CNC mill (VMC), and I bet a CNC lathe would be pretty cool too. My experience with an older industrial machine has been good, so I'd risk doing it again. Sojour on.

    Floating vise build

For power tapping, go with a spiral tap- spiral point for chips forward, spiral flute for chips back, the cut with much less torque as there is more of a shearing action. Of course the chips don't pack in either. When hand tapping with one of the spiral taps it is amazing how much easier it...

    Little Giant Ram Lug

The points above are very good ideas. Clean it well and check for damage that is hidden (cracks painted over). I f there are issues those would need to be addressed. If the material is sound, I suggest doing sa little as possible. A sleeping option would be good. Consider a minimal over size...

    Multifix tool post WTB

It would be hard to compare which post is more stable - the Aloris or Multifix style. Setting up a comparison of the same size post on the same machine in the same heavy cut would be an interesting academic experiment. Regardless, they are both good. I have two lathes, one fitted with Aloris...

    Rapid Original holders

I'm impressed. Mill looks like a Victoria (Elliot) for which one can get a vertical head (no quill, but very robust).

I purchased a Tete a sloter switch defecteuse !!!! Ya Baby!

Congrats. Condition looks very pretty. When you get the tooling sorted, please post. I've a similar unit for the Maho's - but no tools. I've only used mine for engraving graduation lines on a miter guide (cobbled up a single point tool).

    Rapid Original holders

Interesting, he is changing to a multifix.

    Rapid Original holders

The RO was a good looking tool post. One nice feature is that the RO does not add much height, so it will accept 3/4" tools (for a small lathe - 11" swing). When I switched to the "E" multifix I had to skim the bottom of the multifix holders to get the 3/4" tool tip down to center height (made...

    Rapid Original holders

I had a Rapid Original "A" on my little lathe (no tool holders). There are several brands (see above) that are similar - but they are not as interchangeable as the Aloris style. I could not get confirmation of fit, and true RO holders are expensive. That is what lead me to the multifix style...
