  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. CNC plasma cutter build

I was gonna say something stupid like “ does it do any other shapes aside from those three…” but I thought I’d best refrain ;) Beats the heck out of drilling-nibbling-gnawing-and filing that’s for sure.

    Peerless Shaper Basement Install

Haha, those hatches are goofy. I have to give mine a good yank to open it up but then if I don’t get it juuust right when I put it back on it pops off halfway through a cut! Atlas 6" x 18 Lathe Value

Looks like a spare (or replaced) 4-step pulley from the headstock. You can make out the bull gear reasonably well. Maybe a back gear assembly as well, I see a few gear-like items in there but they don’t look like change gears, those are in a separate box.

Hmm, unless I’m missing something I’m pretty sure it’s a Timken bearing lathe. I’m not seeing any cap adjusting bolts on the top, just one Gits oil cup on each side. I have two lathes like this one, an Atlas 618 as well as the Craftsman badged 101.214 — both are Timken machines. Good call on the...

    Peerless Shaper Basement Install

Okay, here you go. I regularly use 3/8” square HSS tool bits directly in the lantern post for most of my cutting. Those are the tools on the left. The smaller ones on the right are 1/4” square HSS and I use them for specialty profiles or of course tighter spots. They get used in the three...

    Peerless Shaper Basement Install

I usually set length of stroke first and then adjust the position of the ram (where the stroke begins and ends) second but I don’t know there’s a hard and fast rule. It just seems easier to me that way. Typically I’ll aim for at least half an inch longer on each end of the part.
