  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. Lenzkirch mantle clock

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. Yeah restorations can be challenging — you need to be on the money or it’s wrong whereas if one builds from scratch we tend to give ourselves more latitude. That’s not to say it’s a finer process, just different and a different approach. As for the...

    Lenzkirch mantle clock

I also needed a new screw to replace one that had gone AWOL over the years, maybe the same time they trashed the mounting tabs, who knows. Anyway, it needed to be an oddball size — not quite a #4 but yet larger than a #3, and with a 1/48 pitch. But that’s why we have lathes, right? The turning...

    Lenzkirch mantle clock

I’ve been fooling around with an old Lenzkirch mantle clock recently. It’s a project I started about 14 years ago (yes, FOURTEEN years) but, well, a few folks have died in between leaving estates to settle and ministering to take precedence. So you’ll have to excuse the fact that I bring this to...

Looking for some brass chips(shavings) in the Calgary area.

Thats ok. They’re 0.085” wide by 0.015” thick but I actually don’t have more than a half-cup or so right now anyways. Found the other stuff though — 2-1/2 lbs of leaded brass saw cuttings off the vertical bandsaw. Couldn’t bear to throw it away so I’ve had it for 15 years probably. Feel free...

Looking for a 12"-13" portable planer.

Yes, that’s it. I bought it partly for the capacity and partly for the fact it was supposed to be the quietest machine on the market at that time. I think it was only one or two years out when I got it. We still had our shop in the public building at that time, so I wanted to keep the noise low...

Looking for some brass chips(shavings) in the Calgary area.

I just threw these into the scrap bin yesterday— maybe a bit stringy for your use but easy to come by with the shaper. I used to have a couple pound bag of saw cuttings from when I was cutting sign lettering but not sure I still have it. Not exactly in Calgary either, but I’ll still have a look...

Looking for a 12"-13" portable planer.

We’ve run decent stock — ie: 8/4 cherry full width — through our 13” Dewalt at work with no problems whatsoever. Bought that machine 15 years ago and it’s still working hard for us. -frank

    Hello from Peterborough Ontario

Hey Chip Maker, that’s pretty cool. I remember when I saw the first arm up there with the big “Canada” on the side. Boy, what a proud moment that was. Welcome. -frank
