  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Giant metal boulder sculpture (art casting with sand molds)

That's a great project. We did some intentionally textured aluminum castings at work a while back, using 3D printed patterns. Ended up using an old file as a chasing tool to texture the joints, just overheated it for a bit to intentionally grow the grain, broke it off, then hardened and tempered...

    Now I have seen Everything!

I mean, my Super 7 was living in my kitchen for a month or so, until CWret was kind enough to take it off my hands... It helped add some chips to my chips, and a little machine oil to my olive oil. Never did get around to making that salad spinner attachment, but now that I've got a 16" swing...

    Shop Compressor Air water separator.

VP Systems sounds like one of those shops worth their weight in gold. The benefit to all the other shops they interact with (hobby and professional) would be hard to overestimate. For reference, something I just bumped into (I'm on vacation this week, and what do I do (other than a canoe...

REIDEN-T200 renovation continues - stern top trailing post

Drove down to visit my friend Shao Pin in Hamilton, came away with a bag full of drill chucks and arbours, and he mentioned in passing that he was selling a little lathe. Sure enough: https://www.facebook.com/share/Ur7BxyWJkGzR3o7o/?mibextid=79PoIi Seller highly recommended, I’ve known him...

If you’re looking for other smiths in the area, Shane Stackpole over at Forged in Canada in Pembrook is a great guy. (I took a design course alongside him two years ago)

Hey John, you could check Princess Auto, as Tom O suggests, and you might get lucky on diameter, or maybe make up an o ring to suit? You can buy spools of o ring stock from a variety of places, maybe somewhere your way will sell to length? I don't know how they do under extreme pressure, but...
