    Miller Dynasty 280

Well, I finally did it. Not a screaming deal at $4200, but I can stop humming and hawing. Plan is to sort out a chiller for it, and then sell my Syncrowave 250DX, hopefully for around $3000. Keep the wireless foot pedal that came with it. I now have two flowmeters, two pedals (one wired), one...

    Vaccinations at Pharmacies, particularly Tetanus

Handy, isn’t it? Just before a trip to rural Uganda in 2011, the doctor at the clinic I was going to be volunteering with told me I had to have a meningitis shot. Two days notice. My girlfriend called around, and found a clinic that had them. She convinced them to stab her with one, and give...

    Vaccinations at Pharmacies, particularly Tetanus

I hadn’t heard of this de-rostering stuff until a piece in the Globe early this past week. From that piece, if your doctor is part of either a ‘family health organization (FHO) or ‘family health network (FHN)’, they bill OHIP based on their patient list, I expect with up charges for specific...

    Machinery skates Tom Lipton style

I mounted the pump truck wheels as far back on the headstock end as I could, got the wheels to the threshold, lifted that end with a toe jack, blocked it up, and moved the wheels to the other end, inside the room. Roughly the same thing at the other end, though I think I used 1 1/4” gas pipe...

    Machinery skates Tom Lipton style

I made the same set! Cable tied back to back for storage, but the same idea. Pump truck wheels (scavenged), stub arbor welded to the angle. 1/2” threaded rod front and back to tie them to each other. I did find a scrap of Masonite between the machine and the angle helped address the inside...

    Being a bit conservative, I'd call it 18 1/2" x 10 1/4" x about 7" deep.

Will notches in a tapered seating surface affect performance too much

On the advisability of turning wood on a metal lathe, I do it semi-regularly. So if it’s a terrible sin, you’ve got company. I end up making or modifying spinning chucks to suit dimensioned drawings, and I find it a really convenient way to hit my marks, and then just blend/interpolate between.

Ordered! I've been idly looking for a large-ish one for the parts from my lathe rebuild, sent it to the Walmart near me. Was going to swing by there anyway to stock up on markers for work. :)
