Machine Looking for a manual and or opinions

My Colchester takes Tellus 27 in the headstock and 33 in the carriage or equivalent. You should be able to find an industrial lubricant supplier in your area. Definitely pop the top of the headstock and flush and clean and replace though, you never want to replace bearings and gears.

Made in Taiwan vs Made in China

I could see the difference in the quality between my Chinese BB lathe and Bridgeport supermax Taiwanese clone. Cast iron is better from Taiwanese companies. They both will have lower quality bearings, but treated right machines will last, cleaned and lubricant used and changed, not overloaded...

Something I would never do in my shop.

Because there are no useless guards on the lathe and mill he would open himself up to potential accident suit. I wouldn’t rent out my shop either, you would spend the whole time looking over the guys shoulder, getting things, showing controls hopping nothing crashes.

    Garbage dumping

That is crazy. My friend looks after the cemetery at the bottom of the road. Constant dumping, and it gets worse people using it at night for adult activities leaving debris on the ground. He has chased some out of the cemetery without pants on. There are camera but the cops take a report and...

SWO with new to me CX708

Welcome aboard, You will find that adding a DRO will make measurements so much easier on the lathe. They are fairly cheap on Aliexpress for a basic model. I use to have a busy bee lathe a little larger 12” than yours. I ended up rebuilding it, with new decent bearing, cleaning all the casting in...
