  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

I used to freak out the other guys in my shop, because I would weld up a, essentially, wood bandsaw blade, and then proceed to go to town on thick aluminum plate with it. Usually 3000-5000 Feet per second speeds, like, right at the top speeds the saw could handle! I would use the same 3-4 TPI...

Exactly! You can do with REALLY cheap tooling, what would cost you a great deal more, if you wanted to use a Mill or other tools. If you want to go fast, use another tool. If you are okay with slow speed, you can get it done, eventually, for pennies!

    Hardening brass

You have a picture, that makes you more than half-way to done! Make the part yourself. As mentioned, all you get from repeatedly heating Brass, is dead soft brass, as you discovered. Quenching Brass after heating it serves to minimize the formation of oxides, and makes it that much faster than...

    Calgary Library

Meh. Calgary has thousands of subdivisions of McMansions that all look alike, in great bloody lumps. I used to joke that I should hand out wrenches to kids at Halloween, and have them take down the street signs, to see how long it took for folks to actually find their own homes... Edmonton...

Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

I was blessed with several really experienced welders (one was 25 years in the game and had time in both shipyards, and underwater), and they were all REALLY keen on passing on their knowledge to anyone that was interested enough to listen. I have not met a welder yet, that was not keen to see...

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

That seems like a lot of extra work, given that I unloaded mine from a Chrysler mini-van, by myself. And humped it down the stairs... Mine had a motor attached... LOL! BUT!... You got the Vise with it! YAHOO! :)

Given the long list of stupid ideas that "Government" seem willing to support, stuff like this seems a far better option.
