  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Sad news - Gordon Lightfoot passed yesterday.

I came across a stack of my uncle's Gordon Lightfoot 8-tracks upstairs at my Granny's when I was 13. Yes, I had an 8-track player of my own. The first song I heard of his was the Canadian Railroad Trilogy, followed by the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Completely blown away. Been hooked ever...

Machine Anyone Here in Northern-ish Alberta with 575V 3 Phase in the Shop? Might Have a Deal for You

Well, a buddy of mine showed me pictures of a Baldor pedestal grinder at an auction a week ago, and I threw a bid in on it. Should have known better as the label wasn't easy to read on the picture, but figured if it was 3 phase would probably be 220V, no biggie. Well, it's 3 phase but 575V. It...

    Tool I Feel Old

I've had one of these K-D Tools 2955 1/4" beam type torque wrenches for almost 20 years. Used it every time I've built a diff ever since buying it, it was a worthy investment. Actually used it 4 days ago setting up the diff for a 1995 MCI diesel pusher motor coach differential rebuild.

Made a table for vertical sawing on my 4 x 6 bandsaw

I like it! I have an auction 7x12 that needs some love before it can be used, but I like this idea. Makes keeping the little saw around even a better idea, lol

    Craftex vs King Canada

For what it's worth, if I had space in my old shop when my knee mill came along I would have kept my round column mill as well. Was a Craftex CX604, and once I got used to the round column quirks of head raising/lowering I did lots of fum projects with it. In Ontario you'll have more on the used...

    Shop Made BXA tool holders

Nicely done! They look good. Like @trevj I approve of the HSS holder shanks and may "borrow" the idea if I ever get some shop time, lol!

    Bench grinder stands ideas/experiences

I have 3 truck brake drums on my shop floor at this moment waiting to become tool stands. Even have old hubs to go in them to mount the posts. One for the abused vise, one to have two 6" bench grinders back to back, and one for the 4"x60" belt sander. Working at a truck shop has its perks :D

Machine KMS/MAGNUM 4x6 metal bandsaw - check your blades!

I've never used the Lenox blades on my 4x6 saw. It's a King, but probably got cast in the same foundry. Once I broke the original King blade I went to the Starrett blades and they have been great for me, no complaints. Only issue is when I try to cut some scrap piece before testing its...

    Universal Solder & Canaduino

I've ordered stuff from them before. Much nicer to have a company in-country, who actually cares, than order everything off eBay. Will definitely order from him again when needing something he carries.
