  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Shaper

These machines are amazing, but honestly I'm just glad to have the one I did manage to find. Even with all the work it took to get it basically running. There are still some modifications I want to make to it but considering most of the work I have planned for it is only a few inches in stroke...

    Ordering parts from Busy Bee

I'm glad others have had some good experiences with BB parts. Not to make a thread too negative but both times I looked into getting parts it was fruitless. One was getting knobs that were missing for my mill drill quill handles from new (they pretty much blew me off) and trying to get a...

    A mag drill (biggie sized?)

    Nice score! Kudos to JohnN!

    I learned something today

In pretty much every shop which I've worked, there has invariably been someone nicknamed "Exxon," for reasons that are in line with the subject matter at hand. Thankfully I have never earned that title but I've certainly made other mistakes of the same severity over the years, lol. As my...

Are wives (or husbands...) that bad?

I'm thankful that I have a supportive wife for my metal cutting and tinkering addiction. She's a nurse, and has had too many patients come in severely banged up on motorbikes, so I'm not "allowed" a bike (she wouldn't disown me if I got one though). However, financial aspects in consideration...

What's your pick for lathe size if you could only own one?

I have always dreamed of a 15 or 16 by 60 to 80 or so unit. I don't usually turn large diameter stuff but part of my future interest is in longer stuff like shafts so a longer bed would be good. As far as moving, even this last move required renting a zoom boom telehandler, so I'm ok with a...

    AXA Tool Holder(s)

Hey, process still looks good for a first attempt, even if it is a bit big! I've made a few pieces to fit my BXA post. I cheated by taking readings between pins on my best-fitting import holder to get my dimensions, even for when I made drawings before starting a project.

A Russian Sith, lol? Welcome here, love the name!

    Here goes nothing...YouTube Channel

I saw your scope video thumbnail come up in my subbed new video list, but still binging on Max Grant's videos for the last few months trying to catch up with his stuff. My son is old enough now that he wants to watch stuff too so my watch time to keep track of friends is lessened, lol. I would...

Do you guys use collection bags in your ShopVac?

I have a bigger shop vac with a filter, no bag, for machining swarf. Got a smaller shop vac, it is only using a filter as well, but it is for "cleaner" tasks like vacuuming the car or when I had to suck out my washing machine when the pump wet the bed. Filter came off before that job, lol.
