  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Tool Face Mill recommendations please

Hey Craig, Do you think you may have had some heat expansion going on? A few years ago, I found that cheaper holders with cheap insert screws didn't work out well. I was applying copper anti seize each time I pulled the inserts out. If I couldn't get them out, I would have to break them out...

    Tool Face Mill recommendations please

Depending on the machine I would say yes. ( Boring mill or the old Cincinnati's, droop and reins etc..) However, for a smaller manual mill less inserts is better due to chatter. This is why, some guys including myself, will pull 2 inserts out of a 4 pocket tool in order to eliminate this. Not...

Just about out of time here today. I will try to post something from amazon. I'm not a user of these but will give you a good idea...

    Tool Face Mill recommendations please

For sure, no bigger than 2" 45 deg. The cutter you posted isn't a feed mill style, hopefully someone here can post something so you can have a look. I'm not at the shop for several days this week so I won't be able to post what I use until later in the week possibly. Feed mill inserts are better...

@slow-poke , This is the way I would go also... I don't know of (ali) but they look as good as Ingersoll or Seco for much less $$$

    Tool Face Mill recommendations please

It will work fine, just need to push your ear plugs in a little deeper and the radio up louder vs the other cutters.

    Tool Face Mill recommendations please

X2 with what @phaxtris posted... other than the triangular indexable insert that he does mention isn't the greatest and I wouldn't use them anymore myself. The others would be a great start for facing. The others that are posted above in the Accusize offerings are more for milling IMO. You...

    Tool Face Mill recommendations please

I wouldn't go bigger than 2" with 4 inserts in that style of indexable milling with 1.5hp in steels. Mild steel I wouldn't take more than a .03 DOC depending on the radius @ 500 rpm with a feed of 15 IPM for starters, just to see how things shake out and how tight everything is. Aluminum...

    Cutting fluid for steel

I like using air when milling most steels. No cutting fluid will help, until you find the proper feeds and speeds for the tooling your are using IMO. The chips will tell you to either slow things down or speed things up. Air will give you a good indication as to how well your speeds and feeds...
