I like your way of thinking, your posts are much better than mine lol, very detailed and informative!! That will certainly help some guys here without a doubt. I've seen beaten spindle tapers as well, even on a used and abused Fortworth that was at auction years ago. Some unlucky sole ended up...

IMHO, don't throw your money away on the 90 deg style, 45 is the way to go on your mill for facing. Dial in your speeds, feeds and DOC for what you have and you will be happy you did vs the 90 deg. On a side note, If you plan to machine with greater depths than most here do then, Even though...

When newly sharpened, Ohhh, they were a bugger to calm down and settle in, until a bit of wear was established. Then the silver...

If you find a high (feed mill) at a reasonable price on Aliexpress, 3/4 and up diameters. I'm sure you would like the performance it gives you. From my experience, the guys with small bench top mills would really have an advantage here vs the button cutter style along with the 90 deg. On a...

If you happy with the performance of the 90's then that's all the matters. Myself, I prefer the 90's for milling and the 45's for facing. I find with the 90's for facing, you need to take a heavier cut ( depending on the corner rad and insert type ) With the 45, you can take minimal if your...

That has been my experience as well, with both flat top and dished button inserts. I would like to see if @kstrauss could let us know how his experience has been with them.

What are your thoughts on insert wear when using a button insert vs 45 or 90 degree when facing with them? Do you think they would generate more heat ?
