  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest.     Anyone know how or where to have a sample piece of steel tested to figure the alloy? I suspect that the large diameter stuff I’m bringing home is 4140, or at least a ‘tough’ steel of some sort, but just a guessing game right now.

    Thought I’d add a comment here. I learned something new this last few days, that ER40 collets can be found in tap sizes, with the square drive built in as well. The ones I found only went up to 1” tap size, but even that I found interesting.

    Tips/Techniques Vertical up welds & Can a Toaster Oven be used as a 7018 Rod Oven?

    I used to spread a handful of 7018 across the top of my woodstove when I had one, it was my rod oven through the colder months for home use. As long as it’s over 100C for a stretch, it will remove most/all of the moisture. Is it correct? Nope. Effective and cheap.
