  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     I have cut a fair bit of rail using torch, a rail saw and a horizontal Bandsaw. Even my small Bandsaw works ok as long as I run the blade on the slowest setting and use lots of coolant.

    If I run coolant I clean my parts with compressed air. If I am running without coolant I don't seem to need it so I use a brush instead

    Right now I am mostly playing with my RC Crawlers. I just 3D printed a trailer for my 10th scale. Next I'll make a hitch for the 6th scale jeep. I also fly drones and nitro airplanes.

    I bought two of 6" vises from busy bee. They are bad but not unusable. I also don't feel bad about using one as a bench vise if I need to.

    ER8 is perfect. Then just mount that in your ER32 or ER40 tool holder. For a HSS drill runout won't be an issue.

    You're SYIL x4 clone has servos instead of steppers? Thats cool! My SYIL lathe has stepper motors so it is totally different, but I had a similar issue when I tried to increase the rapid movement speed. It seemed like because the motors couldn't physically move that fast they didn't move at all...

    Makerbot repair

    I did a little 3d printing this week. The MakerBot is working good now that I got the settings right. I did mill the bushings out of aluminum so the wheels would roll smoothly and the axle is a 3d print with a stainless steel rod going through the middle. This guy gets credit for the design...
