Anybody with a 40W+ laser in Calgary?

make sure you are comparing optical power. A lot of the cheaper lasers are using electrical power in their advertisements. 40w is typically about a 5w optical power. Actual 40w output diode laser will be pricey similar to what David just posted.

Machining Vises & Chucks - Online Auction, Brampton, ON

The Harig went for $195. Sorry :) I got a couple small other things but got outbid on most of what I was interested in. I bid up the 4140 quite a bit but the other guy wanted it more. Seemed some of the early lots went reasonably but shortly afterwards everyone showed up and deals were gone...

    Laser Cutter/Engraver

I did until this past weekend when it caught on fire and self destructed. Luckily I had it sitting on a table outside for both smoke and fire risk reasons. Mine saw use mostly for gaskets. Scan the surface of whatever part alongside a scale/ruler. Then open the image in cad software, scale it...

Question for those with multi-extruder printers

Look into your retraction settings. Try printing a retraction calibration print to dial them in. Tool N2M engravers ball vice

Can you just make one? Weld up your own T-handle chuck key using four pieces of bar stock to create the 3/16 square then turn the outside to the 3/8 round? I am jealous of the ball vise. I have been wanting to try engraving for a couple of years now. Bought a few books and have done a bit of...

    Visiting China

Until I changed jobs 6 years ago I spent the previous several years travelling all over Asia for work. I would usually be in mainland China about 3x per year. I would say my experience is middle of the two extremes reported here. Yes you needed a business visa which required an invite letter...

    Brazing Cast Iron

Thanks guys for all of the great responses. Especially thank you to the offers to attempt the repair. If you guys weren't so far away I would take you up on that offer. It is the size of the parts that makes this more difficult to me. These do not fit in an oven or bbq. and with the large...

    Brazing Cast Iron

This is not a structural part, just cosmetic. @trlvn I saw that video when you posted it a while back. It is partly what has contributed to my reluctance to attempt this. I think it is worth having the repair attempted vs buying replacements. Just the upper belt cover sold on ebay a couple...
