  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     Hi Peter! My experience is similar to yours, In my opinion this chuck would be more at home on the 13-34 Standard Modern I sold to down size, on this machine the chuck dwarfs the spindle which, even though this lathe has the timken spindle I think it's too much rotating mass for the machine...

    Hi Folks, I'm redoing an Atlas 3986 12 x 36 lathe and it came to me with a 5" 3 jaw and an very heavy 8" 4 jaw Kitagawa that I feel is too much weight to hang off the 1 1/2 - 8 spindle, in research it looks like the 8" (or 4 jaw) chucks that were common on these lathes were hollowed or webbed...

    Hi Tom! I suspect you are correct! Standard modern shows it wired up and the manual reads as though reverse is enabled. I have one backing plate with slots and a collar, apparently that is how they got around the chuck coming off in reverse. I've done a bunch of research and the general...
