    Apron repair

I like the brazing idea. Didn’t think of it because it’s not a skill I possess. Would I need to tear it down, or could I just remove the shaft and gear closest to the repair? The next closest gear is almost 3”away. As long as I don’t grind abrasive dust wouldn’t be a problem.

    Apron repair

I'm almost ready to attach the apron on my 1440, but I noticed some damage. I think the bolt bottomed out and broke a chunk of the casting away. Besides being one of the 5 bolts that hold the apron onto the saddle, the missing piece is also home to a channel that gets oil to the bearing...

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

Makes sense. With VFD and original graphics I at last have an idea what the speed is, even if I do adjust it a bit with the VFD.

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

Just heard from @mickeyf, the guy who gave me the lathe, that it has a 3ph motor with it now. So I’ll have to give some thought to what I am going to do with it as far as power. Best solution would likely be VFD. (what he was going to do) I do like how much easier that would be. But I also like...

    King 1440 Re-assembly

The threads are sharp, and since that's the steel part of the mechanism, I'm assuming the bronze-ee (ish?) part is also worn. Of course! That makes sense. With the hint you gave I went back and took another look. It took a moment to click: the thing that was tripping me up wa the fact that...

    King 1440 Re-assembly

I got a bunch of parts on the lathe today! I'll send pictures tomorrow. Working on the saddle, cross slide and compound. Can someone tell me what this part is for?(The one circled in red). The parts list gives the very helpful label of "bolt". The way it shows the orientation in the...

    King 1440 Re-assembly

Thanks for the tips! Once it's done I'll have to consider which I keep - the 1236 or the 1440.
