  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Car designs suck

Every criticism of electric vehicles I see in forums is from people who "heard from a guy", and it's frequently based on stories from a dozen years ago and quite stubbornly insistent - never from an actual EV owner. We had a new-to-us Leaf for a couple of years, in that time it 1/2 paid for...

    Really ?

Interesting that this thread so far is all about vehicles, I guessed it would be (and I'm sure it will become) more general. The scope for engineering and design screw-ups is broad. I have a Hyundai Kona electric and love it - no issues or complaints to speak of, great range. For hauling compost...

    A maybe future project, maybe.

What you need is a honkin' big planer. But in that case your mistake was welding the legs on - now you're probably going to have to cut them off to move and mount it. :D I can picture that not as a gun mount, but as a support for the mast for a hoist of some sort?

    Wild Honey Bee Swarm

I tuned in late as usual, but I was going to say "everything Doggggboys's wife said". And then, "best to have a local beekeeper look after them but keep them at your place" - which seems to be exactly what has developed, and is all for the best. As mentioned bees are livestock and need...

    MT#4 keyless chuck for trade

If you remove the MT arbor, make sure you know exactly which taper the chuck itself uses - there are several different ones. It would be a shame to get the right taper to fit the drill press/mill/lathe, but end up with the wrong taper to fit the chuck! Best to check with the manufacturer if...

    First crash

Also, everything @Tecnico said. I use a hand ground tool (no insert) and it has been years since I had parting off issues. (Knock wood!) Like so much else, it is a matter of understanding the theory then putting in the necessary hours of practice and "making your first 1000 mistakes". It may...

Benchtop Hobbing Machine - The BHM

Very nice! I think I recall some discussion about videos a while back and the answer was "not here", you have to upload them to some other server, such as Youtube or maybe your own site if you have one.

Running Linux and which version in order to run WINE or some other WIN-7..WIN-10 option.

Look up vmbox. Lots of tutorials, info, & examples. I used this at work pretty extensively some years back when doing software development on both OSs. At home I preferred booting Windows from an entirely different drive on the same PC for the one and only program I cared about that did not have...
