    Crankshaft repair ideas ?!

I would hesitate to heat the piece. Do you need to re install the original pulley? Is it in equally rough shape? Once this is fixed will it be used with a load (belt) on that pulley? I would think about using a sleeve. Could you incorporate a split tapered bushing into a repair of the pulley...

    Crankshaft repair ideas ?!

You don't say anything about what the crank is from, but it appears to be an old engine. If so, what is the purpose of the shaft extension and keyway. I have a Lister (clone) diesel which was designed 80 or 90 years ago. It uses a removable handle on a shaft extension for starting. A pawl in the...

When does it start violating the rules, IF I were to....

I remember putting all the (plastic track) straight sections together to make a drag strip and powering both slots with 12v on a single toggle switch. Stage the two cars, flip the switch and watch them go. I think I had a pillow at the end to stop the cars. Chris

    Lathe VFD Motor selection

I went through this process about 15 years ago. My 12 x 36 lathe had a 1.5 hp motor. My motor supplier recommended using a 1 hp 1200rpm 3 phase motor. This means 6 poles instead of 4. He said the better low speed torque from the 6 poles would make up for the lower horsepower. It works great. I...

    Model ship building.

Actually I was looking for a post that showed some parts that may have been related to model ships. Anyway, I have kind of inherited a partly completed HMS Victory. The upper deck and all of the spars and rigging, still to be done. It was my father in law's. This is going to take a while...

    Alibre Atom3D

When I first got Alibre it included Finite Element Analysis, that and the 3d pdf feature, were what sold me on it. Sadly over the years they dropped features. Still does the 3d pdfs. Chris

    Alibre Atom3D

This really dates me. I did a lot of drawings with GenCadd6. It was dos based and 2d but I used descriptive geometry to develop 3d views when I needed them. I used it enough that I didn't have to think about it. I was as fast as doing a drawing by hand. When I tried to transition to Alibre I...

    Alibre Atom3D

Hey David_R8, I have had Alibre Professional for maybe 15 years. First saw it at John's place. Never had time for the learning curve and always resorted to my other cadd system where I didn't have to think about it. I also took advantage of Alibre's Black Friday sale and updated my maintenance...

    Hi there from Quebec

Welcome form near Victoria, I was given a 10" reflector telescope a while back. Learning to use it is on my list of things to do. Good to see that there are some people here who know about them.
