  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. GCSurplus - Calibrated Cast Surface Table - Kingston

Ouch, yeah, I did repurpose an older somewhat beaten up layout table as a welding table. It was never a surface plate though, honest!

    Repair a gib?

Sorry, I used wrong description in my note. Delete ref to quadrilateral. I meant trapezoid or trapezium as the undesirable form gibs can take and have binding, when you want a parallelogram. Had to look it up. Apparently too long out from school, or never learned it correctly.

    Repair a gib?

Wouldn’t weld a gib. Brazing an extension is legit, but may cause stress relief and warp your gib requiring rescraping. Not a JB weld fan for this job. Nicely proportioned and webbed plate. Would have been useful to see the ends of the plate to make sure it has bolt holes for lifting and easier flipping for rescraping. Also would have liked to see base to ensure proper three point support and webbing to suit. Have rescraped several cast iron...

    Welding rod oven

Not a pro welder, but my understanding is 7018 is fussy and needs extra care in avoiding moisture and drying prior to use.

    Oliver S-4 Die Filer

Gerrit, I think we crossed wires in our messages. You had asked about a filing rest. I thought that’s what I have, but maybe it’s just the standard overarm? Anyhoo, I regularly use mine for filing, and love it. Haven’t used it yet for sawing. Good see another person extolling its use! Also have...

Later example of a first generation gap bed Student. Might have been nice to know voltage, if it’s the clutch head version, how quickly the headstock leaks…
