  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest.     Not sure, but you certainly don't need any load on threads to have them gall I've seen and repaired countless stainless steel impellers that were being threaded on by hand when they "stuck". I will check the quarantine cabinet tomorrow and see if that micrometer is still in there.

    The brass looking plate you found sounds like cadmium plated hardened steel, wondering if they used the plate on top of the hot forging and pressed it in with the stud then rolled it over in a forming die.

    I did the calibrations for our shop years ago and I remember being brought almost the exact same micrometer that had seized while being used, turns out they had actually galled the threads on the spindle.

    We don't pour babbit bearings, we have them spin cast ( JD Babbit, Howe TX. ) but there is a local shop who still puddles them. The product your looking for is Babbitrite, or Deacon Mold-Pac or as a trade name bear sh*t, I will see if I can source you some.
