  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year.     I decided i wanted to try to make my own two piece die system inspired by what little giant offers. With the bottom half wedged in and the top half bolted on it. This should make die changing faster and making custom dies easier.

    Finished the assembly and electrical. Its finally able to hammer hot steel. Just needs a guard before being put into serious use.

    Started the assembly on the little giant. I mounted the hammer on a wooden platform to raise the working height and allow me to move the hammer around.

    I made all the minor repairs on the little parts, cleaned then all up and painted the lot.

    It took 2-4.5 lbs ingots to make all the bearings and that includes using the old bearings.

    I used the Babbittrite Damming Compound that came from little giant. Still worked well even though its 14 years old.

    Poured the babbit for the main bearings. Using the mandrel, collars, spacers, and damming compound to make the mold. After a little cleanup and scraping its good as new.

    Hi Trevj The jardine hammers are nice and take most of the same parts. I have never seen that rebuild book before so ill have to check it out. Definitely gonna put a guard in front. Just not sure of the design yet. I don't want something that gets in the way of adjusting the pitman.
