The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Solitary Bee House

Love the bamboo idea. Technically, you don't have to clean them out, the bees them selves will do all the cleaning and boring if they think the hole is the right size but it does make things a bit easier for the bee. Sometimes you will see a solitary wasp dragging a caterpillar into the hole, it...

    Solitary Bee House

If you are going to clean it out, don't do it at the end of the season as eggs and larvae may already be occupying the nests waiting for the following spring to emerge. By mid summer all the bees should have dug their way out and if they haven't then the offspring weren't viable and need to be...

    Mystery lathe, for real

I got the saddle completed today, the gibs adjusted, feels great. I thought I might even get the machine spinning but as I was installing the lead screw I realized I had completely over looked the bushing and badly worn lead screw shaft that spins in it. The lead screw shaft was 5/8" in dia...

    Mystery lathe, for real

I've been beavering away at the Bantam, most of the 1/4" ball oilers got mashed up when removing them so ordered these brass 9mm ball oilers instead. Headstock is back together, the gear train rotates smoothly. Almost finished the drawers for the base, still need to find some handles. Once I get...

Dan Gelbart posts unusual shop tricks

My garage door leaks like a sieve, dehumidifier wouldn't work in my case. I like Dan Gelbart's idea of wiping down steel with Sodium Hydroxide to keep it on the alkaline side, when I'm washing grease off parts with a Lye based industrial cleaner I have noticed that when I pull the parts out and...

Dan Gelbart posts unusual shop tricks

Any of the lathes I've had in the past have always been kept in the basement. This thread is appropriate for what I found this morning when I went out to the garage/shop. We had or first warm humid day yesterday, this morning I found flash rust. The white lathe was oiled no more than 2wks ago...

And that is exactly what he paid for it, $2,800. I hope someone buys it, it seemed to be in beautiful condition.
