Tips/Techniques Rust removal on the cheap, but better than evaporust

Were those items brought up from the Titanic?:) That's a fair bit of rust. Most of the stuff I am removing rust from just needs a shot of Fluid Film. Spray it on, let it sit for a few hours, and then scrub with a green scour pad, my wife's tooth brush, whatever works. Then another wipe with...

Will notches in a tapered seating surface affect performance too much

Curious to know about yours or anyone else's set-up for occasional wood turning on a metal lathe. I used to have a wood lathe, too. Sometimes I think it would be nice to turn a wooden tool handle or other small items. Would using a 3 or 4 jaw chuck and chuck spur center be sufficient (along...

    Found at the Dump

My father-in-law used to bring stuff home from the landfill, auctions, friends places, etc. Now, after amassing a collection of stuff that fills multiple buildings most of it will likely go back to the landfill. Problem is the treasure loses it's luster if you don't look after it. And you...

When I went to school in my 2nd year we were told by staff that there were more apprentice electricians that semester than all other trades combined. Shortly after I got my ticket I heard that the extra classes created were scaled back and some electrical instructors lost their jobs. Similar...

Workplace Safety at work and in the home shop

Before I retired millwrights were becoming worth their weight in gold due to the demand and shortage. Where I worked we lost millwrights to better paying jobs elsewhere and couldn't find any to hire. Heard that some were being flown across Canada to where the higher paying jobs are. That's...

New Year's Prime Rib Roast Hash Leftovers

Well, nowadays you'd probably be a star loss prevention officer. Try putting your hands on someone stealing today and there's a good chance you'd get in trouble.

New Year's Prime Rib Roast Hash Leftovers

Where I live the roasts, steaks, and expensive cuts often get stolen if left out in the open. Becoming so common that some stores put the more expensive cuts behind glass. No lasers or "armed" guards, yet.
