  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    3 sided precision straight edge

I'm sure the brown stuff is typical anti-rust coating they smear on before wrapping in the 'butcher' paper. The slots do look a bit asymmetrical, or at least the upper crown looks that way. Not sure if that's the camera angle. I personally don't think the slots have any relevance to the...

    Motor capacitor procedure

What is the proper way to replace start/run capacitor's on a motor? Assuming they could still be live I've read: Disconnect power from machine. Remove wiring from cap terminals & immediately tape them to avoid inadvertant jolt while removing. Then on the bench, 'short' them for storage. Sounds...

Sorry about that. Hmm... I wonder if they are doing rollout to prior members first & then opening it up? I poked around & there is some rebuilding & tweaking going on.

    3 sided precision straight edge

I doubt anything made to that level of accuracy would be used for scribing or layout. The other end has a hole for a handle like you see on similar metrology gage instruments like for scraping. But this only has a handle on only 1 side vs both, maybe only because this gage is shorter & lighter...

Tips/Techniques Show your shop related 3DP

I made some 3DP chuck stops similar to the aluminum ones you see with magnets. The magnets are so they stick to the chuck & also when you stack together. I decided to omit magnets which I kind of hate around tooling anyways & just print some in progressive graduated depths. Usually you are...

    3 sided precision straight edge

I see these listed on Ebay (along with other cool stuff from the era). What was the typical use of this triangular profile in machining setups? I doubt for dovetails / scraping because the surfaces have quite a bit of relief & the corners are quite sharp.
