New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

Yes that is the only backlash adjustment that I know about. It only takes the backlash out of the screw to compound?? slide, there is nothing for the screw to the pivoting body, that I am aware of. Very lathe like. That's a very nice finish! A little bondo will fix the hashed bit. LOL.

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

Most of the time I use the second slowest speed, sometimes the slowest speed. I have the gibs snugged up on the feed, enough that the assembly does not drop on its own and positive feed, auto advance, 2 or 3 clicks, with about 0.005in. down feed, material dependent and cutter bit dependent...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

@Dan Dubeau, I am wondering if the glue seams are where some/all of the problem maybe. That black appears to be on the glue seams, and the poor infill seem to be at seams. Maybe the glue you are using is the problem, it may not be burning out. Also I am not sure what waxes do at higher temps...

A near miss and big consequences

Near every one that’s had shingles recommends not getting it. My old man got it a number of times, sometimes nearly couldn’t move for up to 2 weeks, a few years ago when Shingrix came out, decided best get with the program. So far, so good.

As to post #200, as others have said, and yourself, tightening the gibs to much is going to add wear to the feed screw etc. and possibly/likely over load the feed pawl. As each tooth advances the table on my shaper, about .003in. , the depth of cut is perhaps the important thing. My figuring...

I believe type 32 hydraulic oil is about 10 weight if you have some about. Would carry you through till finding other. Even a shot of WD40 or such would be better then air.

A near miss and big consequences

Take care Dabbler! Glad it was found. When they asked me why/what has caused my neck problems, they looked at me a bit funny, when I said “ staying alive has likely had something to do with it.”

4140 crankshaft modifications - propeller hub build

I am not sure if a pump packing is the same. If so, or maybe for a try, a pump supplier/repair outfit may have something. In the past I had got rope style packing from them for some of the various pumps we had at work and on the farm.

You may want to be careful of "B", make sure the link does not bind on the ratchet housing when moving, can be adjusted by changing link length. "C", I only use to adjust amount of feed, fine and course amount. "D", I use to course set feed amount AND to change table movement advance to return...
