  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Thanks for the great feedback. The reasons I would want a DRO on a mill would be for functions like bolt circles, halving to find centre, direct entry of measured values, and X by X hole patterns. As I understand it, the I-gaging style readout modules do not interact with one another, so these...

Hobby machinists span the gamut. Making fabrication & inspection jigs and fixtures is an underrated part of working with machine tools. I have thought about buying a DRO for the Taig mill, but the short travel on the X and Y axes makes it difficult to determine which scales would be best...

I used to go to McKinnon Metals a decade ago, but they have long since moved up to Woodbridge. I had not thought to go to recyclers as most seem to be geared to commerical clients.

Thought I should post something in here to give a sense of what I get up to. I've been wanting to turn some small wooden parts on my Taig metal lathe; handles, marking tool bodies, etc. Taig makes some accessories for wood turning, but I don't like them. The spur centre started as 3/4" ATF...

Thanks for the offer! KBC, Canadian Bearings, and Metal Supermarkets are a reasonable divergence from my daily commute, so I try to order ahead and pickup during the week. I’ve laid in a decent amount of raw material over the last few months, but I am always short of something nonetheless. I...

Online I’ve had to be either painstakingly exact or extremely vague about where I’m at. Not for privacy reasons, but because thems-from-away aren’t familiar with our idiosyncratic way of treating distances or placenames.I can’t assume that non-Canucks will even recognise “GTA”. Toronto they get...

I'd love to share pics but, as I noted, most of them are "started" projects that haven't yet been finished. This leaves them less than photogenic. This means anything horizontal ended up as a place to put something "temporarily", and bits of some machines have migrated away from their proper...
