    RF30 Basement Install

Years ago I made an "oil gun" from a small grease gun. I found that I couldn't hold the coupler onto the zirk so that I could actually get oil to pass through the ball valve. I did some google research and found www.LocknLube.com. They make a locking coupler that holds well enough to actually...

    Plastic plugs and caps

If you have access to a 3-d printer, it's pretty easy to whip up a drawing and print them out. I've made some and thy work pretty well so long as you are ok with rigid plastic caps. I suppose you could also use some kind of flexible filament but I haven't tried that.

    New compressor prototype

I recall seeing a compressor of similar design about 20 years ago or so. It was used to compress wet associated gas from heavy oil wells so it could be transmitted to a central location for dehydration and further processing. The gas often contained free water vapour which would have had to be...

Lifelong Project Just Slipped Through My Fingers

The museum is part of Ian MacGregor's (Northwest Upgrader) home. There are people that look after the collection but they only do tours for the public a few times a year and those fill up really fast. If you do get a chance it is really worthwhile, I've been a couple of times. There is a good...

    Loud auto air drain valve

Mufflers will rust out much quicker on vehicles that are primarily used for short trips where there isn't enough time for the muffler to get hot enough to keep condensation from forming inside. I would think that you would have rusting on the inside if used for an air compressor muffler. Who...

    The new Wazer desktop waterjet

It looks like it would be way better to find a local shop with a real waterjet and just pay to have parts cut for you. The Wazer uses a 4900 psi water jet (about 1/10th the pressure for a real waterjet) so the abrasive use is way higher and the cut speed is way slower than a real waterjet . In...

    Aluminum for a English Wheel

Federal metals sells 0.063" (1/16") aluminum sheet. They generally have good prices.

    20 ton jewelry press

I'm not sure about the first reference. Regular 1018 steel has a tensile strength of about 60000 psi. So the second reference seems to be right on and it looks like it is plenty strong for the press. Grade 8 threaded rod has a tensile strength of about 150000 psi - much stronger than mild steel.

Where to get ISO 15 or even ISO 10 oil?

Sure, I could part with a quart or so. On the package it is listed as ISO Grade 10, Viscosity = 60 SUS @ 100F and a flash point of 260 F.
