Tool Let's Get This Started - Tool Test Tuesday

I think so too. I’m a real Luddite when it comes to battery powered devices and will pick corded if it’s a tool that doesn’t really need to be portable (for my usage pattern). Currently my list of cordless tools is: - Drill & Driver. - Flashlight… We did just get an electric lawnmower though-...

Tips/Techniques Vertical up welds & Can a Toaster Oven be used as a 7018 Rod Oven?

I watched this video, and they showed welding with 7018 rods that were wet (I believe left out in the rain for a while). The “trick” where they stubbed the welding rod until steam stopped coming out it seems like it would be the easiest (10:13 mark), plus it would heat the rods up nice:

Label maker - do you have a recommendation?

I’m pretty sure they were heat shrink that could be printed on by a label maker and a co-worker told me that a permanent marker could be used.

Label maker - do you have a recommendation?

I used to have some heat shrink tubing for labeling wires that you could write on with a permanent marker. Worked very sweet. I should find some more…

Thanks @Susquatch @Stuart Samuel @Proxule @Greywynd @6.5 Fan @Aliva @Jswain @Ironman @phaxtris @Bandit for responding to my question. The existing rods I have are 7018 AC. Although putting diodes on my welder is an intriguing idea, I think I'd just buy a new welder rather than tinker with the...

Tips/Techniques Vertical up welds & Can a Toaster Oven be used as a 7018 Rod Oven?

Yes, it’s AC only. I already have 7018 rods, so I can try them. But I want to rule out moisture issue- I guess a toaster oven is not a big cost. Thanks for recommending 7014, I’ll look into those as well.

Tips/Techniques Vertical up welds & Can a Toaster Oven be used as a 7018 Rod Oven?

First, the unnecessarily verbose preamble to the problem that only an engineer could write… So I have a tab and slot welding table: Certiflat 24x48” table- Princess Auto And the manufacturer recommends the back ribs be welded together first, one corner first and then the opposite corner second-...

    Tips/Techniques Urban and traffic planning

In Manitoba, a rural traffic signals installation will cost $500k or so (no geometry changes). Cheaper if it's in a urban area because it doesn't need as many poles. Geometry changes add significantly to the cost of intersection improvements, so if that's happening I think that it becomes...
