Product Behind the scenes in Veritas Manufacturing and Quality Assurance

If you don’t receive emails from Lee Valley, they recently produced a series of five short videos (1 to 2 minutes) covering their: Coordinate Measurement Machine. Deburring. Rapid Prototyping. Vibrating Polisher. Cosmetic Seconds. Link to Videos I found them interesting, especially their CMM...

    Tool Knipex Cobra Pliers

I just got my first pair of progressive eyeglasses. $750 for two glasses from Costco, over twice that from “specialist glasses” stores.

Shop Question for the basement shop guys

Been there, done that… Mind you my wife is probably justified to be suspicious. After all, my experiments have ranged right up to seeing what would happen if I used an electric powered leaf blower for cleaning: - Ornaments don’t have sufficient mass… - Worked great in the basement when we had a...

Shop Question for the basement shop guys

My next job for the basement workshop is to set up a bathroom fan on a timer, so if I use some smelly finish or generate a bit of cutting oil smoke I stand a better chance of exhausting it outside before it’s noticed. (We also have a Heat Recovery Ventilator, so I’d switch that onto continuous...

Drill Press Modification For Sheet Metal Boxes

Sometimes I clamp a piece of wood that hangs off the table, which the box can sit over and use that to drill into. I love step drills for sheet metal (or for woodworking where I need to make a hole larger- I use the step drill to form recess to center the larger drill)

I believe you gave hints on how to price shop on another thread? What do you think of using Camel Camel Camel to track prices on Amazon, and then use the lowest price from that site as a “starting point” for finding prices elsewhere.

    Tool Knipex Cobra Pliers

I REALLY like these Knipex Plier Wrenches, which I purchased at Canadian Tire: Link to Knipex Plier Wrench at CTire I got them about 1.5 years ago for about $70. This thread makes me think that I didn’t get a good deal on them. Oh well, even at twice the price I consider them money well spent.

That’s interesting HD did such a dramatic price match. I was looking for some wooden dowels. HD’s prices were astronomical compared to Lee Valley. The days of trusting the big box stores to provide somewhat reasonable prices are well and truly gone (Similar for Amazon…)

Shop Question for the basement shop guys

Different shoes and lots of cleaning. I have a magnetic broom too. I suspect that eventually I’ll imbed a shaving into my house shoes and will scratch the wooden floors. I dream of having a shop where I can let a patina of time naturally develop (ie one I don’t have to clean all the time).
