  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Tips/Techniques Printed worm drive rotary table

Cool stuff, you mention using Vaseline as a lubricant but being a petroleum product would it not start to deteriorate the plastic too? Would silicone grease be better?

    Power Z & X

When I click on your "Power Z" it shows an X power model! I have an X power and wouldn't be without it. Technically I should buy a Z power as I tend to raise and lower the knee often. Here's a "Z" on Amazon...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

I agree about picking your battles and just buying those wheels for your grinder, hell the material alone would be that much. Looking forward to seeing it completed Dan!

    Laser Cutter/Engraver

I must have missed this question, sorry! For deep engraving (with accurately cut side returns) and (based on my 30 Watt fiber laser) it's wise to lower the galvo head every 2mm otherwise the sides start to taper due to the lens going out of focus.

    Laser Cutter/Engraver

Xtool, Gweike.... all those are sub par both in quality of components and especially custom support. If you want to deal with a mainstream vendor then buy from someone like CloudRay, at the very least as they have been established long enough to be there if you have a problem. My next laser will...

    Laser Cutter/Engraver

The horse is brass but only because it gives the best results for 2.5D engraving. As for spot size it's reliant on the lens size. Obviously the larger the lens the larger the spot size. Detailed work is best one using a 70mm lens because the spot is very concentrated. You trade off work area...

    Laser Cutter/Engraver

At 30 watts it cuts surprisingly faster than you'd think. Obviously higher wattage machines can cut faster but when it comes to 2.5D engraving even the larger machines need to run at lower power or it just ends up burning everything. I've never tested how deep I can engrave but I have gone as...

    Laser Cutter/Engraver

My laser came from Cloudray and I'd say they make a decent product but fail in the aftermarket support area (as most of them do). The switch on my power source failed and it was like pulling teeth to get help from them (and they are fairly big in this industry) but when they finally did they...

Huge list of unfinished projects for the new year

Fortunately I don't have a huge list of projects to finish! I failed to complete one project years ago that bothered me so much I vowed never to start one without finishing the other first. Problem solved :p ;)
