  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     The reel components were made a few years prior while I figured out the rest. I have my own anodizing line so that was all taken care of first.

    The balance wheel and hairspring assembly was time consuming. I was able to find a decent sized hairspring from a mantle clock but didn't know the amount of weight the wheel required to acquire the correct amplitude. So after many attempts and failures I come to this version.

    The pallet fork, pallets and escape wheel were next and proved to be real challenge. You know the saying "you don't know what you don't know"! Well that was me here. I never had a clue about things like "lift angle" or "beat error" until I finished this project LOL. I opted to make my pallet...

    Most of the screws needed to be custom made as well. 4140 was my choice which is nice to work with....

    Next came the jewels. Sourcing them in the size I needed wasn't easy but I found a company in Boston the makes custom sized synthetic ruby and sapphire jewels. I machined bezels for them to make it easier to seat them.

    Then the main plate! Lots of hand work to add anglage, brush finish and pearlage for the back and laser work.

    Once those were complete I made the barrel wheel assembly and other grouped components.
