  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

I have a Clymer manual for my BMW motorcycle. BMW seems in love with specialty tools. In almost every instance, Clymer provides a work-around and in some cases, dimensioned sketches/drawings to make your own.

Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

Old socket. (Pawn shops often have a bucket of loose sockets…) Piece of pipe (apparently 2” SCH 40). Weld. Rough grind the really ugly clumps of weld. Finish cleaning up bubble gum weld & grinding marks with the lathe. Voila.

Do you have to take a borescope so you can view through a small cut in the plastic, or will the seller actually open it up?

    Identifying an odd thread.

Could you use bluing or gear marking compound? My intuition says a nice uniform trace across the mid 1/3 to 1/2 of the depth of mating teeth and uniform across the width?

    Identifying an odd thread.

I’ve run into bolts and threaded rod that I could easily start a nut and thread it on by hand for a few inches but then the nut would get tight. Often it’s due to damaged threads but more than once I realized the bolt had been stretched.

Riv nut gun Amazon 40 bucks.

I see it listed at $42 as well, but the rivet gun is being sold by Zhaojou. Is this the same seller that sent you (@djberta) empty boxes? From your post I wasn’t sure if Zhaojou was the culprit, or not - you mention the seller changed his name…
