  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     lathe tool inserts

    In Calgary I buy a lot of stuff at McDougal Tool on 19th. Bob is an industrial supplier, priced accordingly, but for inserts, I have had my fill of cheap inserts. I bought a packet of Lamina triangular inserts. They were $3 or so more each than KBC but they are awesome.

    Follow rest repair material

    What if you were to manufacture the majority of the arm from steel and fit bearings (already suggested) or a small chunk of brass as a tip that can be replaced when worn?

    Reverse Engineered

    Very interesting video. So: thread is 0.7"? Maybe 11/16X10. Did a quick search and there is a British thread that size and pitch... Would be close to 18mm also. Does seem to be an odd size. For chucking; a collet chuck would hold it more firmly. You could probably buy a small ER collet...
