Preferred metal finishing methods - Discussion

RE: the blue screws, yes, the idea is to heat to colour and then quench to lock. This guy does insane work - awesome kind of insane. Very meticulous. I have used Caswell's black oxide kit before. Don't have the gear anymore. I work in Aluminum a lot, and haven't bene finishing anything...

    Projects

Hi JW: The grinding rest will be a while... it is a work in continual progress... but making a few bits here and there as I go. Thanks RE: the video. I am not too bothered by it, personally. As Alexander pointed out it is difficult to do well. I suspect mine wouldn't be of the highest...

    Radial engine build

Hi Peter: I have seen this type of ball turner before... I have intentions to build a different type to make handles etc. But I think your simple cutter holder will serve as a good basis... my job is simple, cutting a soft material, and a 1-off... so lots of good thing there... My center...

    The basics

I have two Tetlock dials that I use a fair bit. They were used when I got them. I bought a metric "Draper Professional" 25mm dial from the UK. Disappointed (and not surprised) when the plastic back broke. Mind you, there were extenuating circumstances.... but I shall say no more about that...

    Mini-fly cutter

I have been working with my big fly-cutter for surfacing (does a great job!) but then I wanted to make a "small" radius (1" or so) in a project. After much mucking about I made a nice little flycutter that was incorrectly milled... the cutter would not be on the center of roation. Probably...
