What makes a 'metric lathe' a Metric Lathe?

So the 'Metric' CX709 has a metric lead screw? I know some more expensive Metric lathes have metric lead screws, but Im curious if Craftex actually went that far in their build.

What makes a 'metric lathe' a Metric Lathe?

Neighbour has a Craftex CX709 lathe with Metric dials on compound and x-slide. Does anyone know if there is anything else specific on this lathe that makes it a 'Metric lathe'? Is there something specific about the lead screw threads or gearbox **on the CX709** that makes it uniquely metric...

Entire Shop for sale Thousands in value $15,000

OK I'm not that bad. My two main purposes for making an inventory of my shop assets were a) protect my wife from the stress/worry, and b) for insurance if we ever had a major loss (fire, etc)

Entire Shop for sale Thousands in value $15,000

Like I said if there was some skookum kit hiding in the drawers, then maybe more. But to take it all, without itemizing it all and investigating I'd throw out a 1-2k figure. Lets say theres a full and complete metric+imp set of craftsman wrenches, sockets, ratchets, and its not all just thrown...

Calgary Govt Auction Beaver AH Mark II Mill & Clausing Model 721 Lathe Burnerd EC collets/chuck

Yes, but they sometimes go for alot less money and apparently have alot of flexibility for their size, or so I've read (?). Horizontal and Veritcal mill in a bridgeport-ish footprint. I dont think they were ever meant for heavy work. Both units are 3 phase by looks of the cabling.

Entire Shop for sale Thousands in value $15,000

The wood lathe I saw is a vintage Beaver from the Collander foundry in Ontario. Maybe worth $200 to teh right buyer. They are desireable as use-able lathes and collectible for their 'art deco' style castings. I have a 14" bandsaw in the woodshop of the same 50's vintage. 14" Delta bandsaw worth...

Do you have any issues with parting?

    Loose or bad headstock bearings.

My didnt feel like there was any play either and certainly didnt make noise. After checking EVERYTHING else (x-slide, carriage, compound slide, etc etc etc) for looseness I mused it might be the main spindle 'preload'. So I tightened the ring a 1/8 turn and tried parting and it got better, so I...

    Loose or bad headstock bearings.

I had issues when using a parting blade (broke 3) and with chatter/cut quality over entire shafts after replacing the main spindle bearings in my Standard-Modern 9". On the SM9, the entire spindle is held in placed by a threaded ring on the outboard side that is tightened/loosened with a pin...

Using the built in levelling system.

a Base made from, say 3/16" 'sheet metal' if properly formed and braced is going to hold a crap ton of weight and be very stable.
