    Question about casting bronze

I don't think all bronze is sintered. This bearing will be in a chamber with lots of oil so I don't think it would need to be self oiling like a sintered bearing is.

    Question about casting bronze

I recently looked up some prices for round bearing bronze and wow is it expensive. I occasionally have access to some bearing bronze that is left over from turnings. Would it be practical to melt it down and cast it into slugs? How difficult is it to avoid it being too porous to use? I have...

It wasn't on the list that I read but it looks like the Peavy Mart here in Sault Saint Marie will be closing. Too bad I liked going there occasionally.

    Tool Identifying this dial indicator

The dial on that one actually looks pretty good. I have polished a few that were so cloudy the numbers could not be read. I used to use mirror glaze. Now I use some stuff that we use to polish airplanes at work. It does not work better than mirror glaze it just lasts a lot longer. I can't...

    AutomationDirect goes above and beyond

I have dealt with Automation Direct a few times. 100% positive. I got an email from them a while back about a part I bought from them no longer being available. They provided a part number for the new part in case I had to order a replacement. I didn't request the information they just sent it...

New to me RF 45 ..... In the shop

Another option not mentioned is a phase perfect converter. It will change single phase AC to correct 3 phase. By correct I mean the third leg is fully there not just there as voltage like on the cheap converters. They are available up to 20 horsepower capability last time I checked. They would...

New to me RF 45 ..... In the shop

Y Yes a VFD requires programming. There is a short list of things that you have to program. Motor voltage, Max current, spin up time etc. Then are things you can program if you want to if you feel the need to tweak something later. The VFD will retain the parameters regardless of whether it is...

New to me RF 45 ..... In the shop

I bought a used Harrison M300 lathe. The motor was unusable to me as it was 480 volts. I replaced the motor with a more common 240? volt one. Using a VFD really simplified the wiring. I used the original switches but eliminated all of the relays.
