    Friction belt drive design

Is it the motor that gets hot or the belts? I assume the belts What you call the idler, is that cylinder on the left that is connected to threaded rod on some kind of arm? Probably the bottom of the vertical column is connected to a lever or some kind that you use to engage power to the...

Loosening the belt might be enough. Unless i'm wrong, you want to prevent the generation of static via friction

    Machine keith Rucker's 10ee conversion

I think the most important question here is how we define performance. The performance of the machine can be described in terms of power or torque - or length or height; or lots of other parameters. But the performance that is really important, is how the part comes out. Whether on a mass...

    Belt Sander Electrocution

Clearly the belt generates static. A non-conductive work piece won't transfer that static charge to you, but a conductive one will. If the work piece itself is touching the frame, it can discharge the static directly. But if it is not, then the charge has to drain through you. Either a wrist...

    Machine keith Rucker's 10ee conversion

The rate of removal of material doesn't seem like a very important factor when setting up for a cut. I mean yes, if you have a lot to take off, then getting it done more quickly is good, but the tool & geometry - along with material and finish normally dictate the depth of cut and speeds -...

How to clean up a crusty ruler

When I went to school, everything was officially metric - but the rulers we had were marked with 30 cm and 12 inches at the same point. so who knows what they were actually graduated in. I learned imperial measurements independently of school, and have a whole thesis on why is is easier to...

Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

Do you have the shaper yet? What does the tool post look like? If it is possible to mount a collet there, it might be possible to grind one end of a square HSS round and hold it that way (or use round HSS, and grind a cutting face)

Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

Considering that before joining this forum I didn't know what a shaper was, and I have never used one, take my advise for what it is worth It seems to be that the biggest problem is that your tool holder is almost certainly too big to fit through the hole that you are trying to make. So You...
