  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

For those not familiar with the Avex style of rivet, when it is pulled the (steel) stem/mandrel pulls the (aluminum) barrel into a mushroom shape on the back side and traps the broken off part of the mandrel. It doesn’t just flare it out like a hardware store POP rivet. The mandrel breaks off...

I think you are in the same boat as us, our LOI probably would have been sent to TC and likely got lost in the hand over. These days things would be electronic so we’d have copies to refer to. If it was passed by a TC inspector I would imagine there should be no problem the second time around...

Made in/shop in Canada options - Links or recommendations only!

Just to help refine the made in Canada discussion, check out the shades of grey in “Canadian” products: EDIT: Now a (better) CTV article since the Toronto Star wants $$ E.g. “Product of Canada” is more Canadian than “Made in Canada”. In another related opinion, I’ll take the position that a...

You guys are the worst kind of influence. I never imagined that belonging to a machining forum would lead to ……. this………… I’ve had a back burner wanna do project to make a treadmill control board do my bidding. I’ve got three of the things. It just needs something to generate some...

    Help re insert type

I have a similar tool which I believe to be about 40 years old. The cutting pieces appear to be cut down brazed carbide turning tools, mine are also stamped AR as are some of the unmodified tools I have from that era. The rest of the stamping on my unmodified tools is AR-6 which designates the...

    What's Paul up to?

Isn’t that odd. We actually have two sizes of pots and the switch to LED was seamless. D

    What's Paul up to?

Just curious, we just replaced the bulbs with the equivalent dimmable LED bulb. Same look and no installation. Why change the fixture? D

    Which Linux? Be Kind…

I know you asked about Linux but I’ve recently seen stories about W11 being able to be run on supposedly “non-compliant” hardware (especially the special security hardware) so even though MS wants you to buy new hardware it sounds like you can still run on older platforms. Why not run on W10...
