7x12 metal bandsaw and infeed table, $200, Saskatoon, SK

Crazy! Equipment is so cheap and available out west. That’d list for $2k out here or more with the table. EDIT: This is what you get for $250 in Halifax: Seriously?! D

Use Acurite 5 scales with a Chinese DRO?

Never say never until you try it! Didn’t you say the DRO changed your life? ;) I like doing the part/drawing in 3D CAD and so far, enter in TDRO by hand but I would trust CAD export to not make typos like I do! It’s even better when you’re doing a lot of points. I also like being able to...

    L00 backing plate

I ran into the same issue cutting the taper on a D1-6 plate and the best I could do was turning very slowly (like bull low) using a choked up boring bar and a very carefully ground and polished HSS cutter. The sharper the better. This was for the shallow finish dimension cuts. IIRC I tried the...

Use Acurite 5 scales with a Chinese DRO?

Looking at it that way, right now TDRO is more capable than I am and Plus will bring more. The one cool function I like the most is the ability to enter coordinates and view them on the GUI display, I don’t recall if the far east stuff does that but I expect so. In TDRO they change colour as...

Use Acurite 5 scales with a Chinese DRO?

According to Yuriy the current board acts like a dongle to enable (unhide) the Plus features built into the app. When I was shopping I compared the manuals for both but I didn’t do anything like write a document proving it if that’s what you’re asking. He talks about his soul searching in...

Use Acurite 5 scales with a Chinese DRO?

Just a couple of comments. Yuriy’s will respond to questions over in his sponsored forum page on Hobby Machinist. The latest TDRO adapter gets you the more advanced “PLUS” version of the App, I’ll leave it to people to check it out on the TDRO site. That said the standard version covers...

just a gripe about can openers

We have two of these, they work well. Didn’t know they would cut the side so I just tried it, it did cut but not very well on a sample of one. D

    Help choosing material

That’s exactly the thing but it’s not the courier at fault (except for the cost of their fees), it’s the vendor that won’t do the import paperwork, collect the tax and hand it over to the government. If they did then the couriers could do what they do best - transport the goods. Digikey, MCM...

    Help choosing material

Interesting. My Shars order was about $80 but recently I had a shipment via Royal Mail for about $250 that was taxed plus a dinger fee of $10 which still beats the couriers. I remember some of the politicians mooting a higher exemption level, maybe we can hope for the upcoming election? That...
