  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Check my thinking please!

Most pre-machined ball screws have the other end machined with a snap ring groove, might be easier to machine the other end. The outer skin of the metal is hard but the interior is relatively softer. Have machined quite a few for our mini-mills.

    CX704 Lathe conversion

Hi all, At the school where I teach we are in the process of doing the conversion to CNC of 10 units of the Craftex CX704 mini-lathe. On the first prototype unit, the X and Z axis are already modeled up and 3D printed, ball screws with bearing blocks are installed and it's going well. Students...

    Another threading question

I think the name comes from the fact that all information is based on "theory" vs "practical" information. At the college where I teach mechanical engineering, we add the thread information from Martin's page directly on our 2D drawings created in SolidWorks. This takes out the guess work from...

    Another threading question

Just my 2% input here, the website Theoretical Machinist can be tweeked to get the thread dimensions you need - so in this case you are aiming for a M45-0.6 thread which gives a pitch diameter of 44.610/44.503 dimension. This is what you have to measure, either by the 3 wire method or with a...

    Valenite tool holder

@Susquatch you're right that the holder is not related to the material being machined, I was just pointing out that if starting fresh, get a holder/insert combo that you know works together. For insert dimensions, the imperial rule is: DNMG-432: 4=inscribed circle in 1/8", 3= thickness in 1/16"...

    Valenite tool holder

A few considerations to make before ordering a toolholder online ... first of all is the actual insert you have, if you don't have the correct identification it is possible that the hole in the insert or the insert size doesn't fit the holder geometry. If the insert is a WNMG-543 or something...
