  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Round carbide insert lathe tooling

Totally agree on the rotating/multi insert tools. Considering the brittleness of inserts I cant image the mess made with inconsistent orientation/positioning...total cost of machining would probably demonstrate no saving at all with a cheap tool. I managed to pick up a few used Sandvik...

Best local place source odd sizes by weight?

@ MS definitely has changed over the years..have been 'misinformed' from them a number of times in the last few years when they are selling off-cuts and telling me they are 'giving me a deal' when I already researched their full retail/new metal prices per inch in advance and its what they're...

    Round carbide insert lathe tooling

Seen some of their stuff before; a bit premium priced for Asia-source but from the photos, looks finer finish. When it comes to tooling with inserts, I'm usually more concerned with the insert quality than the holder; I do have some other Aliepxress-like tooling enroute so will see what it...

    Round carbide insert lathe tooling

For a cheap try, you could use this tool: https://www.banggood.com/SRDCN1616H...-p-1116644.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN You can't (easily) face with that holder as the cutter is in the middle of the tool...not the side; the SRDCR tool mentioned above would be more versatile for that...

    Round carbide insert lathe tooling

Anyone have notable experience with these? Wanted to buy a new one but the range of options is overwhelming. Overall goal is to have a finishing cutter that can allow for nominal material removal and leave a smooth finish (I hear the round inserts are the way to go to accomplish this). I'd...

Gauging interest - M10x20mm set screws for lathe QCTP holders (BXA)

Dog point isn't about reduced diameter...its about having a flat spot so it marrs the surface of the tool less (instead of the ring cut in to the finish that a standard set screw usually leaves). Makes the removal/re-insertion of the tool later...easier.

    Rotary Broach

Cool. I'd like to see it in action Do you think you could use them to clean up some existing socket head bolts... or would that be too hard of material? I'm talking about just truing up the bottom of the hole to ensure full-length engagement

Gauging interest - M10x20mm set screws for lathe QCTP holders (BXA)

AXA are usually 8mm...BXA usually 10mm But since there are variances out there, best to pick a size and make em all the same

    Sharpening carbide tooling

Does anyone here sharpen their brazed carbide tools? I've got a number of used ones and they look serviceable but could stand a bit more of an edge on them. I've got a green-wheel stone (silicon carbide) so that's hard enough to grind it but I've heard the health hazard just isn't worth...

Gauging interest - M10x20mm set screws for lathe QCTP holders (BXA)

M10x20 dog point set screws are in; fwiw - nicer/more consistent finish that the OEM ones I had PM if you're in need of some.
