Cool Tools in your home shop that you'd not likely not see in someone else's?

I also used one of them the other day to push a crack closed on a casting I was repairing. Clamped one side of the casting down to the table, put a clamp lightly on the other side to constrain it, and clamped the hold down to the table. Made it really easy to apply force on an awkward part...

Machining Vises & Chucks - Online Auction, Brampton, ON

Much appreciated! Both for the ID and the possibility of reuniting those with the holder. I was actually pleasantly surprised, having heard horror stories of auction pick-ups gone wrong. The handle for the vise? Still with the vise!

Starrett 434-12-16R 12" Combination Set -NEW-, $290, Kitchener, ON

I thought about it, as I want a set at home, but the scale doesn’t work for me. Who uses 50th? and 100ths?? Although I have a ‘Xerox’ marked 6” Starrett from my Dad that’s the same, 32nds and 64th one side, 50ths and 100ths the other.

Tips/Techniques Vertical up welds & Can a Toaster Oven be used as a 7018 Rod Oven?

I’m very rusty as a stick welder. But the vertical stick ticket was done up, with 7018. 1/8” electrode, I want to say something like 125 amps? But it’s been, uh… 15ish years since I did my tickets. I’d say you can manage with 3/32” rods at 100 amps, 7018, vertical up. And I don’t see why you...

Cool Tools in your home shop that you'd not likely not see in someone else's?

One of those has been on my list for a long time. I’m assuming it’s the same thing I’ve found use of on used tools, looks kind of like extremely tiny TIG welding? Interestingly, my DoAll bandsaw has a socket for an ‘electric etching pencil’, as part of the blade welder unit. I dug around a...

Machining Vises & Chucks - Online Auction, Brampton, ON

I’ll be there at 10-10:15, same thing. :) And yes, while I like the idea of a great deal, I’ve yet to see an auction that yielded any screaming deals. Good for the seller (whoever it is in this case, I wish them a happy retirement), and good for the auction house. Less so for buyers.

Machining Vises & Chucks - Online Auction, Brampton, ON

Yeah, I was bidding on the demagnetizer, up to $50. They come up often enough on Kijiji etc., I think there’s one listed now for $100. If I can go get one any day of the week, I’m not going to chase one at auction.
