  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Tips/Techniques Cutting screws down to length

Funny you should mention that... I just made a much heavier plate for my 10x22 lathe and part of that required me to cut down some 8mm bolts to a rather exact length. I am the happy owner of a Milwaukee 12v portable band saw and this tool makes short work of cutting through any sort of metal you...

Tips/Techniques Parasitic Draw of Cordless Tools

So - my experience with buying non-brand name batteries for my Milwaukee cordless tools has been very mixed. Mostly the batteries themselves keep working, but they are poorly put together. One 12-volt drill fell off my table and, while the drill itself was fine, the off-brand battery was...

    Help installing DRO in Edmonton

John Sorry I lost track - happens far too often these days it seems! If you feel OK with calling me - why not give me a dingle at 780 200 xxxx? We might set something up that works for you. Looking forward to hearing from you. Or, if you were to call me, I would really like the chance to visit...

    Help installing DRO in Edmonton

Wow! Great responses from so many of you. I especially appreciate those encouraging words about how I might do it myself - with a lot of guidance from others of course. But, I did break my arm a while back and that is still a bit of an issue, plus some (all?) of the issues Susquatch mentions. I...

    Help installing DRO in Edmonton

More then a year ago I posted a request wanting some professional (means I am willing to pay) help installing a DRO three axis set on my Grizzly Milling machine. There were a few responses, but sadly I have lost track of them. Anyone in the Edmonton area willing to help me out? I am well retired...

    Brass Hammers

For many years I have been using a brass hammer I threw together from a piece of round brass stock about 1" dia. This was made before I got some metal-working equipment, and I used it a lot. However, it was pretty ugly and the hole for the handle is round, so there are issues with that. So, I...

    Sawing Metal

Another possibility is to use a cut-off saw with a Steel Demon blade. I have an old battery-operated Makita 7.25" saw that I use to cut just about anything - within its range of course. I have cut 2" square tubing for a 2" x 72" grinder I am building. Takes about 25 seconds to make one cut using...

    New Never-Twist clamps

Apart from making and fitting the pads, the second clamp is done. I may replace the square brass at the end of the handles as suggested by Tom. But first, the pads. I can now choose between copper, brass, aluminum and bronze - after an expensive shopping experience. I like the look of bronze...

    New Never-Twist clamps

Tom - Great idea. I made a prototype using hex bar, but that seemed too fancy. I may knock this apart and try the round bar stock I have here - somewhere...
