    Inconsistent fit - R8 collets

I have a Grizzly 9975 milling machine. From the first day, some R8 collets will fit easily into the spindle, and others will go in only about 3/4 of the way - then stop. I have done some measuring and the end of one R8 collet (which will not fit) is .9490. Another R8 collet that does fit...

    2x72 sander

Clamp project update - have the second prototype of the 10ga metal arms for a 4.5" clamp here at home. Cut by a local company using their laser cutter. Very nice. I left the holes undersized enough to allow for reaming, but now I wonder if I should have specified them exactly. One hole (to be...

    Schedule of drill bit sizes

I agree that similar charts are widely available. My intention in creating this one is to show ALL available drill bits - fractional, metric, lettered and numbered all in the same chart. Very useful to me in making some brass hinges a while back, especially when sizing the hinge pins and...

    Schedule of drill bit sizes

Some of the members might like to have a copy of this Excel spreadsheet I created, It is in PDF format. Shows almost all available drill bits up to 1 inch in diameter in order of increasing size. I find I refer to a copy I keep in my workshop quite often. I printed mine on legal-sized paper in...

Current projects - upgrade mill with DRO, plus making Kant Twist clamps

Just back from a visit to a metal fabrication business here in Edmonton. After seeing their laser-cutting machine in action, there is absolutely no way I am cutting the sides for the Kant Twist clamps myself. Their machine cuts at a rate of 135 inches per minute through 12 ga steel, and the...

Current projects - upgrade mill with DRO, plus making Kant Twist clamps

Funny you should post this just as my doorbell rang for the delivery of my set of parts from this same supplier in Winnipeg! I also watched the Blondihacks videos on this and found them helpful. Not certain that her idea of using reamers on the various holes is actually essential - but it cannot...

Current projects - upgrade mill with DRO, plus making Kant Twist clamps

I don't have a bandsaw, but I do have a decent sander (underpowered). One of my upcoming projects is to build a new 2 x 72 sander - but that's another story. One of the mind-sets I inherited from many years as an accountant is trying to be efficient with my time. In addition to that, I have...

Greetings from a new/old guy in Edmonton

Thanks for the encouragement. I probably have the skills to install the DRO properly, but I lack flexibility. Certainly appreciate the offers of assistance I have so far received. Much appreciated.
