  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. Quick change insert height

I have a few 250-202XL tool holders that will accept 3/4" tools instead of the normal 250-202 holders that accept 5/8" tools. The tool slot is .0625" closer to the bottom of the holder. They are the same price so if you are going to buy more tool holders in the future you should look for the XL...

    Lathe repowering

FWIW the Teco 510 vfd's that I used on my lathe and mill have 2 different program selections for braking parameters. Setting #14 gives "rapid stop" and setting 15 gives "base block". The rapid stop decel time is adjustable. Base block is another term for coast to stop, no dynamic braking. I use...

    Tramming KBC mill question.

I didn't look at the picture showing the type of mill it is. I assumed it was an RF45 type square column machine. The round 3 bolt flange on the machine in question has to remain movable to rotate the head/ram assembly side to side so epoxy is not a viable solution. I don't see how shimming...

    Tramming KBC mill question.

As others have mentioned, using shims around bolt hole on cast iron is a recipe for a cracked casting. I think epoxy is the best solution. Check out Stefan Gottswinter,s video.

measure over pin method for gears

Nice! It does seem counter intuitive to only use 2 pins on an odd tooth gear but even the Machinist Handbook shows that to be the correct method. Do you have a project in the works that will involve gear making Peter?

measure over pin method for gears

You could cut your test gear from delrin or aluminum if you have any scrap pieces around

measure over pin method for gears

54 - 69.9 78 - 99.9 63 - 81.1 56 - 72.4 57 - 73.6 When I do the arithmetic using the DP formula all 5 of those gears work out to between 20.32 and 20.35. Using the Module formula they all work out to between 1.247 and 1.249. So with the numbers for those 5 gears it looks like Module 1.25 is...
