    Old Gorton milling machine

I messagedthe Kijiji guy about this mill. I wanted a few better pictures. He told me that another guy has the mill at his property and gave me a number to message him. Kind or a red flag for me. Also, who leaves a mill outside unprotected and covered in snow then expects someone to pay $3600 for...

    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

I spent a little time working on the EMCO today. I finally got my mill running reasonably well and that allowed me to work on making a bottom plate for the tail stock. I had a chunk of 1 1/2 x 6" bar I picked up from a scrap pile at my farm. Amazing what you can find when you least expect it...

2 Bridgeports in Toronto, $1500 each

I have to admit that i have considered buying every mill on Kijiji from S.Ontario and bringing them back west for sale. But common sense prevails. Maybe when I’m visiting my daughter at university on Montreal I should rent a truck and trailer and drive back to SK with a load of mills.Hmmmm.

    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

It is an Imperial machine not metric. There is a tag on the end of the bed that shows it was at the Loraine County Joint Vocational School. I think this was in Ohio. Amazing how these machines move around.

    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

I have managed to find the manuals online as well. This is good since I have had to take a few things apart and they weren't obvious on how to do it. I had to remove the feed lever since it was seized. There is a small block that goes on the end of it that is missing. It probably fell into...

    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

Thanks. I think i can figure out the tailstock clamp base but i may need a picture of the inner lower clamp of the tailstock barrel. It has a v shape that is pulled into the barrel. I have the upper clamping piece but not the lower. It is part number 8 in the service manual of the tailstock.

    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

Now that things have cooled off a little, I decided to do some work on the Maximat I picked up at auction a couple weeks ago. I changed the oil in all the gearboxes. Then scrubbed a bunch of the rust off the ways. They are slightly dark from the rust but there doesn't appear to be any...

    Mill scale removal ?

As a chemist, i will say that citric acid is awesome to se for rust and mill scale removal. Rust is removed faster than mill scale but both can be effectively removed with citric acid. I was clean g up the rust on my Emco lathe handles with it and was very pleased with the results. Citric acid...
