Metal working - dry / lubricants / coatings / cooling mist

I see, an enclosed system and vented, makes sense for high velocity micro tools, sterile and doesn’t require cleaning of the parts. Quite effective if well managed,I noted they don’t recommend steel fixturing in case a cutting tool hits it and sparks.

    Welding a driveshaft yoke.

I certainly had a driveshaft loop on my GT6 when racing it. Since the Bronco body and fenders already had been cut and flares installed I’m going with a manageable sized 31.5” X 10.5” on 15” rims. I doubt the truck will be off-road anytime to soon, as soon as I’ve broken in and debugged...

    Welding a driveshaft yoke.

it came out fine, I did tack it, had a pro weld it, checked runout, no movement. After everything gets shaken down with the drivetrain running while on blocks, both front and rear drive shafts are going out for balancing. 1976 Bronco

Metal working - dry / lubricants / coatings / cooling mist

I have not been in a shop that was using it, I’ve seen and used varsol mixed with cutting oil, and have used it but I still think it’s sketchy. I draw the line at alcohol, I think it is a step too far in risk vs. benefit. In my older years I’m more prone to say , not my zoo, not my monkeys.

Kondia Power Mill, $1500, Creemore, ON

That’s a good mill for the price, that belt and pulley manual speed change would put me off it, I don’t think I’ve changed the speed on my drill press more than 3 times in a decade.

I can’t stand much in the way of air contaminants, while I like Acculube I can’t bear the vapors it gives off , chokes me up. I can’t smoke anything and things with toluene and such like as in Slip-ease graphite paint can make me sit down, lots of breathing protection for me, I’m a snowflake.

Metal working - dry / lubricants / coatings / cooling mist

Automotive oil and cutting oils are engineered for different purposes. Cutting oils have a different stable viscosity and have additives like sulphur, chlorine and or long chain fatty acids. Automotive oils are designed to keep metal parts from abrasion, their composition is not enhanced to...

    aborted grocery shopping rant...

Yup, our local Italian bakery went the same way, a small open warehouse jammed with fresh breads, cheese, cured meats. Rocking all the time, elbow to elbow Friday through Sunday, small pizza or lasagna for $1, latte for 1.50. Pops passed away and kids mortgaged out and rented 2 huge spaces and...
