  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

'We' 7x mini-lathe users do have power carriage traverse (but only by the same leadscrew we use for threading...tsk, tsk), but no feed rate control, unless we put different change gears at the end of the machine. So, more RPM on the spindle, the carriage moves faster (but the traverse...

What is this feed rate control of which you speak? Obviously you don't work in the world of the 7x lathe! :)

If you want to make babies, it's best to use the 'tried and true' methods developed by our ancestors; thinking up 'a new way' may be interesting but won't necessarily produce the desired result. :)

With my 7x lathe, I've never found that the metallurgy of the cutting tools was holding me back. If you post pics and details (diameter,RPM, SS type) of your SS turning job you may get some more ideas. EDIT: As @Susquatch pointed out as I was typing.

Good. As I recall, those motor securing bolts are just run into threaded holes in the (thin) motor shell. Some lathes have a 'positioning' bolt as well, which pushes the motor downwards, away from the ways. Next time you are poking around the back of the lathe you can take a look.

Make sure the motor pulley and the spindle pulley are aligned. The motor (and its pulley) have some limited adjustment in the Z direction. A spare motor pulley might come in handy, too. Order one from AliExpress or LittleMachineShop - check the motor shaft diameter- or find a 3D print file for...

Take the back cover off the motor and you will be able to figure out how the motor mount is set up. You adjust the belt tension - it should be pretty tight to make sure the 'lugs' on the belt don't skip on the pulley- by adjusting the motor position. I forget how the Vevor is set up. Some of the...

Actually, it's an outstanding price, especially for the Bison. When I ordered one of those chucks from HHRoberts last year, the guy on the phone told me they only had a few left, so I wouldn't hesitate if you want one. I've recommended them to a few guys in the Logan groups. N.B. :Those chucks...
